Signet Recording - Animal Identification
Animals are identified within the FarmIT system by their Official Tag Number
(ETN). In the United Kingdom this equates to the official UK tag number for both
Cattle and Sheep. We choose the official identity as this is the number printed
on movement and vet and med documentation.
Signet identify the animal by a Breeder code and unique number, the format of
which may depend on the breed society or group. This number may not match the
official ear tag number or even be directly visible on the animal. For cattle
signet do tend to use the Official Tag number, for sheep prior to 2011 they did
not.
THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT OF RECORDING WITH SIGNET IS THAT
THE ANIMAL IDENTIFICATION IS CONSISTANT.
To overcome the fact that the animal may have in effect two name, FarmIT 3000
provides a specific data field to store the signet reference ('Breeding Index
Reference') and the BASCO ID Reference ('Reference ID'). This is edited and
displayed on the breeding tab for the animal.
The Sigent reports contain both the official ear tag number and the breeding
index references for all animals, i.e Dam , Sire etc
Signet will assign their ID when new animals are registered and include this ID
in the results of the first analysis by them.
You may import and set the signet reference and the basco ID from the report
signet send you back.
